Updated (1/18/2010):  The forecast mentions rain all week long.  Near the weekend, the weather will be clear and sunny, which means really good white powder snow for us.  Mammoth alone today has dropped 7” of snow and more.  Vehicles requires snow chains, so please get them. It’s better to buy or rent them down here cheaper than more expensive up there.  You can always return them if not used.  4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels are okay, but I still recommend you bring snow chains just incase condition changes.  Pack warm and bring extra blankets or sleeping bags.
